Home battery backup in Austin, TX
Keep your lights, fridge and internet running when the Austin grid goes down.
We design and install home battery backup systems across the Austin metro, for homes with existing solar and for homes without any solar at all.
Why Austin homes add backup
What a battery actually does during a Austin outage
Central Texas homeowners have lived through the full range: the February 2021 winter storm, ice-loaded trees dropping distribution lines, spring hail and derecho winds, and summer afternoons when air-conditioning demand peaks across the whole state at once. A battery does not fix the grid, but it does decide whether your house rides through an outage or sits in the dark.
Austin's housing stock makes this practical. Garages in Circle C, Mueller, Steiner Ranch and Round Rock usually have room for a wall-mounted battery near the main panel, which keeps the electrical work short and the install clean. Hill Country homes on well pumps are a common case too — a well pump is one of the loads people most regret not backing up.
We are a Texas licensed contractor and we serve the metro from Downtown and East Austin out through Cedar Park, Leander, Pflugerville, Buda, Kyle, Lakeway and Bee Cave. Every project starts with a written quote, not a phone estimate.
Storm and ice season outages
Central Texas outages tend to be weather-driven and can last well past a few hours. Backup keeps refrigeration, lighting, Wi-Fi, phone charging and a few outlets alive while crews work.
Summer peak demand
August evenings put the whole state's grid under strain at the same time. A battery holds stored energy for your own home so a rotating outage is an inconvenience rather than an emergency.
Well pumps and septic on the west side
West of MoPac and out in the Hill Country, losing power often means losing water too. Well pumps can usually be backed up when the pump size and panel allow it — we check this before quoting.
With solar or without
Both work. The difference is how the battery recharges.
Compatibility depends on your existing equipment, which we confirm before we propose a design.
Homes with existing solar
Grid-tied solar shuts down during an outage for safety, so panels alone leave you dark. Adding storage lets the array keep the home running and recharge the battery during a multi-day outage. Whether the battery pairs directly with your inverter or needs an AC-coupled setup depends on the inverter make and model, so send it with your quote request.
Homes without solar
You do not need panels to get backup. The battery charges from the grid and discharges when the grid fails. Capacity is finite until power returns, so sizing and the circuit list matter more here. Many homeowners install a battery first and add solar later.
Equipment
Batteries we install
FranklinWH aPower 2
Our primary system. We are a certified FranklinWH installer, and the aPower 2 works with existing solar or on its own, sized so the home keeps running through an outage.
Other major battery brands
We also install other leading home battery brands on request. If you already have a preference, tell us in the quote form and we will confirm whether it fits your panel, your inverter and your goals.
Honest equipment advice
If your home is better served by a different product, a different configuration, or no battery at all, we will say so in writing rather than sell you something that will not do what you want.
How it works
Installing a battery in Austin
01
Tell us about the home
A few questions about your address, your panel, whether you have solar, and what you want to keep running during an outage.
02
Load review and design
We review your electrical service and the circuits you care about, then propose a system size and configuration that matches them.
03
Written quote
You get a written scope and price, including what is backed up and what is not. No verbal estimates, no surprise add-ons.
04
Installation and commissioning
Permitting and utility paperwork, then installation by a Texas licensed contractor, followed by testing and a walkthrough of how the system behaves in an outage.

Buda & Kyle
South metro homes where storm outages can run longer than in the urban core.
Lakeway & Bee Cave
Hill Country properties, often with well pumps that homeowners want on backup.
Georgetown

FAQ
Battery questions from Austin homeowners
Will a home battery run my air conditioning during an Austin summer outage?+
Sometimes, but it depends entirely on the size of your AC, whether it has a soft start, and how many batteries you install. Central AC is one of the largest loads in a Texas home. We measure your actual loads and tell you honestly what a given configuration will and will not carry, before you buy anything.
I already have solar in Austin. Can a battery be added to it?+
Usually yes, subject to equipment compatibility. Some inverters pair directly with a battery, others need an AC-coupled setup. We check your inverter make and model first and tell you which approach applies to your system.
Do I need solar to get battery backup?+
No. A battery can charge from the grid and discharge during an outage with no solar at all. Solar simply adds the ability to recharge during a multi-day outage.
How long does an Austin installation take?+
Most single-battery residential installs are a one to two day job on site once equipment is on hand and the permit and utility paperwork for your area are in place. We give you the expected timeline in the written quote.
